Excerpts of Excellence
Great Coaches are strong leaders. You don’t have to be the best athlete. Character and integrity reign supreme. You also need to work hard, learn, read, be humble, listen and possess a genuine motivation to help your athletes. And if you want to be successful as a coach (or in any business or career), you need a strategic plan that you are willing to be disciplined and mature enough to follow.
Over my years of learning from some very good coaches and leaders, I thought it might be appropriate to share some of my favorite anecdotes and quotes. Find one or a few that resonate with you and write them down.
"There are three kinds of people in this world: those who make it happen, those who watch it happen and those who wait for it to happen." - Tommy Lasorda
"There may be people who have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do." - Derek Jeter
"He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else." - Benjamin Franklin
"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will." -
"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perserverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love what you are doing." - Pele
"A goal without a plan is just a wish." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
World Gym Athletics is about Fitness Truth. It’s not about trendy programs or the newest equipment. We believe in the power of coaching and leadership. Our program will continue to evolve, improve and focus on more than training. We create leaders, experts and help those around us grow and prosper. We will not follow, we will lead. We won’t react, we will innovate.
